About All India Sainik Schools Entrance Exam (AISSEE)

The All India Sainik Schools Entrance Exam (AISSEE) is a national-level entrance test conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) on behalf of the Sainik Schools Society, Ministry of Defence, Government of India. AISSEE is the sole gateway for admission into Class VI and Class IX of 33 Sainik Schools across India.

Sainik Schools are residential schools that prepare students academically, physically, and mentally for entry into the National Defence Academy (NDA) and other defence officer training academies. These schools follow the CBSE curriculum and provide holistic development with military-style discipline, sports, and character building.

AISSEE Class 6 — Admission Details

Eligibility Criteria

  • The candidate must be studying in Class V or have passed Class V.

  • Age: Between 10 and 12 years as on 31st March of the admission year.

  • Gender: Both boys and girls are eligible for Class VI admission in all Sainik Schools.

  • Domicile of the state where the Sainik School is located is preferred (state quota seats).

AISSEE Class 9 — Admission Details

Eligibility Criteria

  • Candidate must have passed Class VIII from a recognized school.

  • Age: Between 13 and 15 years as on 31st March of the admission year.

  • Both boys and girls are now eligible for Class IX admission.

Key Exam Details

  • Mode: Offline (Pen & Paper, OMR-based)

  • Duration: 2.5 Hours (150 minutes)

  • Negative Marking: No negative marking

  • Medium: English and Hindi

Selection Process

  1. Written Exam (AISSEE): Qualify with merit marks

  2. Medical Examination: Rigorous medical fitness test is mandatory — students must meet strict health standards including vision, hearing, and physical fitness

  3. Document Verification: Original certificates, domicile, caste certificates

  4. e-Counselling: Final seat allocation through online counselling based on merit rank, preferred school, and category
