About CTET 2025 - Central Teacher Eligibility Test (Paper 1 & Paper 2)

CTET (Central Teacher Eligibility Test) is conducted by CBSE to certify teachers for Classes 1-8 in central government schools. With over 30 lakh applicants each session, it is one of India's largest competitive exams.

Why CTET Matters

CTET qualification is mandatory for teaching positions in:

  • Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVS) — 1,300+ schools
  • Navodaya Vidyalayas (NVS) — 660+ schools
  • DSSSB (Delhi government schools)
  • Army Public Schools
  • Central Tibetan Schools, EWS schools under ERDO

CTET Certificate Validity

As per the latest NCTE notification (2021), the CTET certificate is now valid for lifetime. Earlier it was valid for 7 years only. Candidates can appear multiple times to improve their score.

Exam Structure

Paper 1: For teachers of Classes 1-5 (Primary stage) — 150 MCQs, 150 marks, 2.5 hours
Paper 2: For teachers of Classes 6-8 (Upper Primary stage) — 150 MCQs, 150 marks, 2.5 hours
Candidates can appear for both papers in the same session.

Eligibility Criteria

CTET Eligibility Criteria

Paper 1 (Classes 1-5)

  • Senior Secondary (12th) with at least 50% marks + D.El.Ed / B.El.Ed / B.Ed, OR
  • Senior Secondary (12th) with 45% marks + D.El.Ed (NCTE 2002 norms), OR
  • Graduation + B.Ed (from NCTE recognized institution)
  • Appearing in final year of D.El.Ed / B.El.Ed also eligible

Paper 2 (Classes 6-8)

  • Graduation with at least 50% marks + B.Ed, OR
  • Graduation with 45% marks + B.Ed (NCTE recognized), OR
  • Senior Secondary (12th) with 50% + 4-year B.A.B.Ed / B.Sc.B.Ed
  • Appearing in final year of B.Ed also eligible

Relaxation

SC/ST candidates: 5% relaxation in qualifying marks (45% instead of 50%).
